When looking at restaurants in Waco, you have to put Tex-Mex at the top. Favorite Waco Tex-Mex restaurants starts with Abuelita’s which is fairly new to the Waco area. How can you go wrong with the meaning of the name of your restaurant being “granny.” It carries a wide variety of combo meals, ala carte, and of course the Baylor Burrito. Diana says if you like guacamole, they have one of the best in town.

Casa de Castillo is another locally owned home-style Tex-Mex restaurant. The Castillo family has been a mainstay Tex-Mex restaurants in Waco for years and have owned several restaurants throughout Waco. If you want quality food and great service, Casa de Castillo is a good choice. I have been coming here for almost 40 years.

A family-owned Tex-Mex restaurant that has more than one location in the Waco area as well as one in Hillsboro. As far as restaurants in Waco, the Gonzalez family has been in business in Waco since 1969 and are very well known and loved. This is another one of my father-in-law’s favorite places on his list he visits every week. He is often in here every Wednesday.

La Fiesta is IMPORTANT to me because it is my wife’s favorite. They boast they are Waco’s original Tex-Mex restaurant and have been around since 1963. Large restaurant that is good for parties. My wife and I were in here the night they shut down because of Coronavirus and six weeks later when they opened back up, this is the first restaurant we went to! This is one of Diana’s favorite local restaurants.

I call this place Peking Mexican Food because I can never remember the name and Peking was the name of the restaurant before it. lol I love the Tex-Mex Burrito that is covered in LOTS of cheese! They have good salsa and chips, but I like it all.

Better known to locals as Taco Z. This is my little secret for Craft Gallery customers. But don’t tell anybody else about it. You can easily pass them by but you can do a U turn. Taco Z has open-air porch seating that makes this place fun but can but hot in the summer. This is a favorite of the Baylor students. Their specialty is the ala carte corn and floor tacos. They are SO good and different. You must get the chips and homemade salsa. As soon as I finish typing, I believe I am going to Taco Z!
There are MANY other GREAT local and national chain Mexican Food restaurants in Waco. Check back and I will give you some more ideas after you try these!
